These advanced courses are supported by a faculty of leading neurology specialists and are an intense three days covering some of the most common and complex spinal procedures

Please note;

Level I is an advanced course and attendees should already have a basic knowledge of spinal conditions and surgical proficiency

Level II is designed for surgeons that are skilled at surgery including laminectomies and ventral slot decompression, wishing to expand their surgical repertoire to more technical procedures and spinal stabilisations

Advanced Spinal Surgery Course and Laboratory (3 Days)
An advanced course focusing on neurosurgical procedures of the cervical & thoracolumbar spine.

This three-day course, supported by a faculty of leading neurology specialists, is an advanced course focusing on neurosurgical procedures of the cervical and thoracolumbar spine.

The course will consist of five sections; each will include lectures on theory with step by step instructions, then laboratory on that subject.

Attendees should already have a basic knowledge of spinal surgical conditions and basic surgical proficiency.

Laminectomy including Corpectomy:
Improved imaging, surgery site illumination, and magnification results in surgical decompression performed with more limited soft tissue approaches and greater spinal cord decompression. Hemilaminectomy of the thoracolumbar spine will be taught using high speed burrs. The techniques of decompression of Hanson Type II disks via corpectomy will be taught.

Cervical Slot Decompression, Distraction and Stabilization:
The procedure of ventral slot decompression will be performed on the cervical spine using high speed burrs. The cervical spine will then be distracted and stabilized using a locking screw system. Stabilization of the AA joint will also be performed.

Stabilization of the T-L Spine:
The techniques of fracture reduction and stabilization using pedicile screws will be taught. Emphasis will be on approach, techniques of reduction and temporary stabilization, then definitive stabilization with bilateral locking pedicile screw systems. Proper placement of implants will be stressed.

L7 – S1 Decompression and Stabilization:
The unique aspects of decompression of the L7 – S1 area will be demonstrated including performing a L7-S1 foraminotomy. Reduction techniques for L7 fractures will be demonstrated with stabilization using locking screws in L7 and the sacrum/ilium.

Hone Skills Lab:
The attendees may repeat previous laboratories or perform the fourth laboratory.
